«Education and Work» Research Unit

Current notions of education in working life have their origins in the middle of the 20th century – a time of high employment rates, standard work contracts and company-centred jobs. All three of those characteristics have since changed. Working life now often entails multiple and part-time employment, job changes, and atypical forms of work.
The research unit explores this field empirically, adding to the discourse about the significance of further education and training  in the working life of the future. Special interest is given to the differences in focus on both sides: In times of changing forms of work, what kind of training opportunities do private, charitable and public employers offer, and how important is further education to employees? In different research projects, the research unit tries to answer these questions within the context of theoretical and historical considerations.
