Master of Arts in Education

Structure

At the University of Zurich, completing a Master’s degree program in education takes at least 4 semesters, consisting of 90 ECTS points for major and 30 ECTS points for minor studies. The five possible concentrations in the Master’s degree program all have the same curriculum structure. The MA program covers the fields of:

  • Educational Psychology
  • Social Pedagogy
  • Special Education
  • Theory and History of Education
  • Vocational, Economic and Business Education

The Master’s degree program confers the degree ‘Master of Arts in Education’ (MA).

Classes and examinations are generally held in German. Information on admission to the MA program, the course of study, and completion of the program is available on our website in German.

Contents

Education as a social science aims to describe and explain processes of education, learning, and socialization in individuals and groups. Students in the MA program acquire a well-founded academic understanding of interdisciplinary collaboration. The concentrations offered in the MA program teach scientific theories and research methodologies. Students in the MA program acquire in-depth knowledge and skills in scientific thinking and methods. Graduates of the University of Zurich Master’s degree program in education with any area of concentration are qualified to conduct independent research.

The Master of Arts in Education degree is a prerequisite for pursuing a doctoral degree program.
