Vocational Education and Training and Continuing Education

Vocational education and training and continuing education deals with the intersection of the subject, society, and the work environment. It conducts research on various issues relating to employment-related education. These include vocational orientation, the vocational education system, learning in the process of work, employment-related continuing education, and education within the context of employment biographies or in companies.

In its research, the chair of Vocational Education and Training and Continuing Education focuses on three main topics:

• Analysis of the connection of employment-related education and changes in society and the work environment;
• subject- and appropriation-oriented approaches to employment-related education;
• actor and policy issues of employment-related education with reference to the education system and in organizations.

In terms of research methodology, the focus is on qualitative methods, text and image analysis procedures, and case studies.

The chair of Vocational Education and Training and Continuing Education is responsible for teaching in the educational science study programs (BA, MA, PhD) and in the contemplary Master’s program “Vocational and Economic Education” as well as the study program “Additional Qualification in Vocational Education” within the Teaching Diploma for Upper Secondary Education.
