Helga Eng lecture, University of Oslo, October 7, 2025
Professor Christian Ydesen delivered this year's Helga Eng lecture at the University of Oslo on how education has served both as a governance tool and an imaginative resource in navigating global polycrises.
Marking 150 years since Helga Eng’s birth, the talk explored how education had been mobilised in times of systemic crisis to sustain legitimacy, build international coalitions, and narrate possible futures. By drawing on historical turning points since the mid-20th century, the presentation highlighted how education had served as both a governance tool and an imaginative resource in navigating global polycrises. It also considered lessons learned and key points of attention for the contemporary situation
and for the futures of global governance beyond 2030. More details can be found here: https://www.uv.uio.no/english/about/news-and-events/events/2025/governingfutures-through-education.html
