Mobility Outgoing

Mobility programs enable students to have enriching experiences at other Swiss or foreign universities. During the stay, for example, additional subject and language knowledge can be acquired, new contacts can be made, and intercultural understanding can be promoted.

At Bachelor level, the 5th semester and at Master level the 3rd semester is a particularly suitable time for a mobility stay. Any crediting of study achievements during the mobility semester is planned in advance with the person responsible for mobility and recorded in writing in a learning agreement.

Studying at a Partner University in Europe (SEMP)

SEMP (Swiss European Mobility Program) enables Swiss students to spend three to twelve months at a European university. The Institute of Education currently maintains several subject-specific SEMP contracts (see exchange opportunities with field of study “Educational Science”).

In addition to the subject-specific agreements, there are also some exchange places that are open to students of all subjects (so-called “non-subject-specific agreements”).

SEMP: subject-specific and non-subject-specific agreements

Study around the World

The University of Zurich has worldwide agreements with numerous non-European partner universities.

Self-organized Mobility

If your university of choice is not one of UZH’s exchange partners, it is possible to organize your stay yourself.

Digital Mobility

Certain universities within Europe (currently e.g. Charles University Prague) now offer online courses that can also be used by students of the University of Zurich. This offer can be taken as a supplement to the modules at the University of Zurich, but is not comparable to a traditional mobility semester.

Studying at Another Swiss University (CH-Unimobil)

CH-Unimobil enables students of the University of Zurich to spend one or two semesters at another Swiss university.

Selection Process

The following criteria apply to the awarding of exchange places in the order listed:

  1. Major before minor subject
  2. Previous academic achievements
  3. Letter of motivation: the academic added value of the exchange at the desired partner university must be convincingly explained
  4. Provisional study plan: obvious engagement with courses on offer and availability of creditable courses (Download Provisional Study Plan Template)
  5. Sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction at the partner university
